Located about 17 km from Antananarivo, the hill is home to the Rova or the Ambohimanga’s Palace, a walled enclosure with 14 stone portals. This was where King Andrianapohinimerina lived from 1788 to 1810 with the aim of reunifying Imerina. Ranavalona I and II also visited here to spend time and bathe in sacred basins. The top of the hill provides a commanding view of Antananarivo. The site is also home to exceptional vegetation and sacred groves.
After the visit to Ambohimanga, continue your trip to the ‘Digue’ market to find some souvenirs. This busy market is filled with unique Malagasy crafted products and shops. After the visit, drive back to your hotel.
